"Nikon D80 meter"

I was wondering if the D80 shared the same meter as the D40/50/60 line, or is it simiar to the D90?

Hi Paul,

The D40/D40X/D60, D80, and D90 share the same 420 segment RGB metering sensor.
The D80 and D90 share the same Multi-Cam 1000 AF module.
The D40/D40X/D60 share the Multi-Cam 530 AF module.
Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!

Best Regards,
Marty

Marty addressed the hardware. The meter calibration is somewhat different in the D80 - from all of the other models. It seems to be more biased toward avoiding blowing out highlights than the other meters. I'd say it was not fully successful as the D90 returned to behavior similar to previous models. The difference isn't enormous, though, in either direction.

I have been considering the D80 or D90 for future upgrade to my D50.

There are still a few refurb D90 floating around but they are dwindling down.
