Very interesting the high ISO noise performance seems to be signifcantly better then the D200.

Makes me wonder why.

Those images do look softer than with the Canon. I've noticed the same level of difference between the D200 and the Canon 20D (reviewed on the DPReview). I sometimes wonder about these tests, however. The D80 image doesn't look like it's focused right. The lettering further back in the image looks on par with the Canon.
