"Batteries"

Corsham, GB

As I understand it the official battery for the D70 is the same as the D100, the EN-EL3 and retails in the Uk for approx £45.

There are lots of EN-EL3 batteries for sale in eBay for around £9. I am assuming that they are all equvalents and not the genuine article.

My question is... Are these equivalent batteries any good and what should a buyer look out for spec or other wise.

Thanks ....Colin

In general, I would say stay away from the non-Nikon batteries... and even then, be careful of what you buy. Nikon made a big announcement late last year that warned users from buying imitation EN-EL1, EN-EL2, and EN-EL3 batteries for cheap.

There's lots of copies of this material, but for example:

Thanks for the reply, seems to be pretty clear cut message in the link "dont touch the imitations."

I'd avoid the fake Nikon knock-offs since anybody who is crooked enough to fake Nikon packaging and labeling certainly isn't accountable for battery performance.

But there are excellent aftermarket battery providers who often put more capacity into their products than the OEM does. Maha Powerex batteries are highly regarded and I wouldn't hesitate to use them:

Specifically, BJ is speaking about this EN-EL3 replacement:
