My nane is Andrew and I live in Melbourne Australia. I have been looking through these posts for a while now (interested in getting my hands on the Nikon D70) and only just registered.
It must be true because only today I located a Nikon D70 and its available now for pick up im Melbourne, problem for me is they only have the body available and as I am starting out from scratch I need to buy the kit. I have emailed to find out if and when the kit will be available.
The only other camera that I uses is Coolpix 5700, so obviously when I hold on the D70, it feels good, fit better than CP5700 and much better than CP5700 even when the CP5700 attached the the MB5700 battery pack. Without the MB5700 the camera is too small for my hand.
I tried a few shots at home after recharging my batteries. Like the continous shot mode, especially when I shot 'kids blowing candle during birthday' My CP5700 can only take 3 shots and have to wait about 5-10 secs for it to write to CF card.
Few grouses though (actually my problem). - my SB80DX cannot use TTL mode, only non-TTL auto, some recommended me to get the SB800 instead of SB600. Will read up more on the differences. - no zoom lens, max 70mm now, cannot really shoot far objects. probably buying one soon but not sure which one. Posted for recommendation on other threads.
Over this weekend I will take some more photos. SO far it's looking good.
Overall, I am very very please with this D70 (of course I am comparing to CP5700)
PS: I literally 'live' here since end of Dec 03. During that time I was about to buy D100 but luckily Nikon annouce D70, so I waited and waited like a hungry wolf. Read more and more about D70 and like it more and more.....Once D70 hit the stores, this wolf went....
D70 (Feb 04 - ??)
