"Wanted.....Old, Unused Digital Cameras of any make or model."

Killeen, US

To everyone that loves cameras and picture taking,

I am looking for unwanted homeless or unused working Digital Cameras of any type. SLR's with a lens or Point and Shoot cameras. My only request is that they work.

I am trying to set up a Photo club for the Boys & Girls club here locally in Killeen. Most of these kids cannot afford to buy any cameras of any kind. I was thinking of maybe setting up sign-out program so the kids can check out a camera weekly take pictures and bring it back in and have the club download the pictures and write them to a CD and help them print them out. I have already donated a Epsion R380 color printer to print pictures on. These kids love shooting pictures and see them printed. I am also going to try and teach some of the kids parents at night free. Just the basics of picture taking. Most of these kids ages are from 6 to 16.

The think the kids will love having a camera club and a safe place to share their photos.

I will of course pay all shipping for any cameras donated.

Pay It Forward......

Thnaks

Tom C.

Tom,
By "unused" do you mean never opened/used or just not currently in use? I have a couple old ones that I would be glad to donate and they work (as far as I know) but they have seen use.

P.S. you may find that your biggest obstacle is finding batteries if the old ones are completely unusable - I'm not sure about mine, but they are proprietary in both cases.

All cameras are welcome, I am letting kids use these for a photo club. Most of these kids can't afford these types of things. Just let me know what the shipping is, I live in the 76549 area.

Pay it forward.....

thanks again. Tom

Tom, I have a Panasonic TZ5 point and shoot that is perfectly functional but has a big scratch on the front element. It does just fine until you point it towards the sun, then you sometimes get flares and/or a soft patch in part of the image. It's fair to say that a lot of times it shouldn't be a problem, and when it causing a flare you'll see it on the screen before you shoot so you can try changing angles a bit to avoid it.

Here are some sample images to help you decide. Click through to the gallery version for full size. Let me know if you can use this camera or not.

Worst-case scenario, the scratch is causing the big flare over the hammock:

Pointing somewhat towards the sun and there is a soft streak visible behind the loungers if you know to look for it (cross reference with the nasty flare):

Nothing visible here at all, even at full size:
