"WTB: Old medium format or 35mm film camera"

Hartselle, US

Hello:

To improve my photography, I am enrolling in the local community college photography course. I need a film camera, as the first classes are in B&W photography, and color film photography. I would like to have a nice one, but can't afford much. I was laid off last year, and am still jobless. If you have an older nikon film camera (so I can use my existing lenses), or a medium format camera and lens that you do not want anymore, please consider selling it to me for class. I can maybe muster up $250.00, but not much more. Thanks,
Rich

I've got a gorgeous black FM body that I purchased from a Nikonian a couple of years ago that was cla'd and used a couple of times. I've also got a black FE and chrome FE2. Shoot me an email and we can see what we can work out.

Hey Rich,

I've got an FE-2 in very good shape, CLA'd last year by KEH (only shot one roll since getting it back), with the leather Eveready half case (in decent condition), leather strap, and professionally Ai'd 135 2.8 "K" lens (in excellent shape). I'll sell the lot for $200. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

Hey guys, the lenses I currently have are.....

70-200 f/2.8 VR
24-70 f/2.8
70-300 VR
85mm f/1.4D
50mm 1.4 D
18-200 VR
and a couple of fairly new kit lenses....

Will any of these work on older Nikon cameras????

Richard

PS: I am currently looking at a Mamiya C330 on ebay for 250.00.

The FM is full manual. I own one. The FE is aperture preferred auto and manual, as is the F3. The FE is built from the FM body. Just more electronics. So both FM and FE are more compact than the F3.

The FM/FE are geared more to advanced amateurs, though the FM has seen professional use. I knew a pro back in the late 70's who used one. Both are good choices.

It depends on a few things, mainly dealing with aperture rings. G lenses would prove problematic since they have no aperture ring. I am not well versed in older camera/ newer lens compatibility. I am used to newer camera/older lens compatibility. Perhaps someone can explain whether or not G lenses will function on older cameras.

Of course VR will not function. D lenses usually have aperture rings, since I have a couple I know this. Those will work.

I have a lightly used N5005 that I never use any more, and probably never will. Email me if interested.

Hi Rich, Sent you a e-mail. I have a Nikon N90S with the special back, and possible zoom lens. Maybe we can work out a deal.

Canon (ouch!) FT-QL. This is really a good camera - black, has some brassing. Manual, match needle exposure metering. Comes with 28mm f/3.5, 50mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.8, and 200 mm f/3.5, along with a virtually new bag. I bought this outfit in Japan when my F Photomic was stolen in Vietnam, and used it all over southeast Asia. I'd say it's equivalent to an FM. $200.

Hello all:

Thanks for all the replies. I have just bought an F3 on ebay along with a 35-70.. Nikkor AI lens for the class.

I am still in the market for a medium format camera, though. Maybe a Mamiya RB or similar with lens.

Thanks,
Rich
