This question will reveal my utterly amateur level using post processing software. I only recently (6 months?) upgraded from D70S to D7000. I was still using PictureProject with my D70. Now I am using ViewNX 2 v2.5.1.

Can I return back to the original NEF file after editing the image in ViewNX 2 and saving my edits? If memory serves, I could do this in PictureProject.I have not figured out how I can do this in ViewNX. As a result I have been very cautious in my editing so far.

Yes.At the far right of the adjustments tab is an icon (square with a curving arrow) Mouse over and it will say revert to original. Click on it and it will revert.You must then save this just as if you were doing any other edit if you want to keep it.
