"A cautionary tale"
Tue 24-Apr-12 07:08 PM by AlanTW

Stanbury, GB

I've just upgraded my rather elderly Dell 9200 (Dual core 2.4GHz 4Gb RAM)to Windows 7 64 bit from XP. I installed Capture NX2 (64 bit) and it ran considerably faster than under XP, happy bunny time

I didn't use CNX2 for a week but when I tried it locked the PC up requiring a restart and occasionally bring up a BSD.

I finally discovered after re-installs etc etc that the problem was due to the Windows 7 CPU gadget. I had enabled it to monitor another problem that I was having, with it removed all was well again

I hope this saves somebody the agro I've just been through!

Alan

How did you determine this? I run the CPU gadget on my Win 7 64 bit system and CNX2 64 bit and have not seen any problems.

A process of elimination, disabling running programs in sequence, as soon as the CPU gadget was removed CNX2 ran. I suspect that it may have to do with the GPU

A meter to display CPU Usage and RAM usage. Much like task manager but it shows on your desktop or optionally always on top.

OK, thanks. I've used that but didn't recall the name of it.
