"Capture NX2 setting for everyday printing"

Bartlesville, US

After being out of photography for a while. I need some help. Somethings I can remember and others I cant.

In Capture NX2. How should I have program set up for printing?

1. Print Layout section
- Page Layout and Color Management

I am having trouble monitor matching prints. I cant find anything within my budget to purchas. Very frustrating. I see where Epson is very proud of their ink.

Any good generic inks that are compatable with Epson Stylus Photo 1400? I tried some from one company and got a lot of color banding. About every photo I printed was banded either verticle or horizontal.

Thanks in advance and have a great day.

3rd party inks for non-professional Epson printers (or any ofther manufacturer's for that matter, are likely to cause problems. They are not made to do anything more than save money, so the quality is inconsistent and generally poor. Spend the extra bucks for the genuine Epson inks. Epson frequently has sales on their web site and B&H and others also sell at a discount.

Also, if you do not use the printer regularly, the 1400 does have a tendency to clog, so run the print head cleaning utility, and also make sure the alignment is right. That should help the banding.

As for matching the prints to you monitor, that requires adjustments to you display settings. Something as inexpensive as a Huey Pro will help, but a DataColor Spider or Xrite ColorMunki is better, but more expensive.

If you can't afford any of that, turn down the brightness of your monitor, as the usual problem is the prints are too dark, which is really caused by your monitor being too bright. Setting the brightness to somewhere between 50 and 75% then print. Here is another way to do it without spending any money: http://www.hermitage-ps.co.uk/monitor_luminance.htm
