"View NX 2.2.1 - Not keeping sharpness setting.."

ZA

Hi everyone,

I am having an odd issue with my View NX 2.2.1 and was wondering if anyone can shed some light on it?

I am busy going through some golfing shots that I took this morning. One of the adjustments I am making for each shot is to increase the sharpness a little bit.
However for some strange reason if I navigate away from a photo and start editing another one, View NX decides that it must throw away the sharpness setting for the previously edited photo. It keeps all the other settings (brightness, contrast, etc) but the sharpness value goes back to zero.

Has anyway seen this happening to them? If if yes, have you been able to solve it?

Any advice would really be appreciated

Hi Oliver,

Using View NX2 (2.2.1), I just through several images from a recent trip to Maui but didn't have the same Sharpness anomaly as you experienced.

I saw your post before working with VNX2 so tried to duplicate the sharpness problem. Couldn't do it. Whenever I went to leave an image after adjustments the Save image option window would come up without fail. Even when I checked the box in the Save window to turn off the option window the adjustment values, including Sharpness, were saved automatically before going to the next image or immediately closing and reopening VNX2.

In other words, VNX2 wouldn't let me exit an image without giving me the option of manually saving or automatically saving a modified image with all adjustments.

I don't usually like to suggest this but perhaps removing and re-installing VNX2 may help?

Ken

Hi Ken,

Thank you for your effort, I really appreciate it.

The 'Save Image' window pops up for me as well and I can see the progress bar along the bottom saying 'processing..'. So it seems to save.
If I go back to the image after I have finished with it, the sharpness is as I left it. However if I move to another image and then back to the image I sharpened I will watch it unsharpen itself in front of my very eyes.
It is quite odd. As the photo opens I can see it has the sharpness as I left it, but after about 2 seconds the image unsharpens itself.

I uninstalled VNX2 (2.2.1), restarted the computer and then reinstalled. But the same thing continues.
So I uninstalled again and went back to an older version of VNX2 (2.1.2) on which I had no previous issues with the sharpening.
But to my horror it is still unsharpening the images.
Really not sure why

I have done quite a bit of Googling on the topic and there was an issue in Capture NX back in 2009 with the same problem but that was fixed with a small update.

On my laptop, which has VNX2 2.2.1 installed, I have no such issues. Just seems something is a little bit sick on my PC.

I will continue to tweak and fiddle about and see if I can find something. If you think of anything please let me know. I'm open to all suggestions as I would not like to edit hundreds of RAW files on my laptop as it really doesn't have the horsepower.

Oliver - sorry to hear of your problems with View NX2.

In View NX2 - does it make a difference as to whether you are looking at thumbnails or full size images? Which view are you using for your edits?

You indicated this affects sharpening? What order are you using to adjust sharpening? Is it a last step or a first step? Is there any Auto setting applied?

What are your cache settings? Could it be using a cached image or thumbnail? Have you tried opening an edited image in another program to see if the change has been saved.

Are you allowing enough time for the image to fully save before moving to the next image?

What operating system are you using?
