"Same adjustment CS4 & NX2"

Buffalo, US

I have been shooting some interior shots of model homes and processing them as HDRs. After the conversion, there is a strong cyan cast caused by natural light at the windows. Larry (mnbuilder49) graciously explained how to remove this cast using CS4 Image / Adjust / Hue/Saturation / Cyans.

Since I do the bulk of my PP in NX2, I was wondering how to accomplish the same Cyan reduction there.

Thank you,
Karl

Hi Karl,

There are a number of ways to accomplish this. Which method or methods you choose depends on the specific image.

Adjust/Light/Auto levels/advanced may or may not work

Neutral Control Points. first place one on a correct neutral area then add others in the areas where there are color casts.

Color Control Points. place in areas with a color cast and adjust sliders to taste.

Selection Control Points. use in combination with Adjust/color/color balance or Adjust/color/LCH/hue. can be used with opacity as well.

If you can post a pic or a link, I would be happy to show you how I would fix the image.

Thanks Kraig.
This is a seven shot HDR (one of my earliest experiments).
The cyan shows in all the windows but the second window from the left is the problem. The siding is a gray/brown color.

Hi Karl,

Here's my interpretation. I should have been more clear in Annotate! The second neutral point corrected the reflections as well as all the windows. I don't know how the program can be that smart (but I'm glad it is).

That's just simply amazing, Kraig.
How did you select which points the set as the neutral points?

Hi Karl,

Selecting the neutral points is a combination of experience and trial-and-error. I first thought that the white in the sign would make a good starting point, but I was wrong. So I moved the point to various white/gray areas until I found a place where the picture didn't change much. For the other points, I looked for things that should be gray but weren't. Then I moved each point around until the image looked good. CaptureNX is an amazing program and I love the simple "organic" way it works.

Kraig - nice use of Annotate! Looks like I'm going to have to try it. And, good explanation of what you did to the picture, thanks.
LaCrosse - as in Wisconsin? Did you dig out from all the snow you had? My son used to live in Sparta, but moved this year to a Texas town north of Houston. They had the earliest snowfall in 36 years - looks like the snow followed him.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the nice comments. I do live in LaCrosse WI. The snow was not bad. Its the terrible cold that's keeping me inside and wishing I had never left Florida. Since I grew up here, I've no excuse for the mistake of moving back
