"Capture NX 2 Vignette Control"

US

I Just downloaded NX 2.2.6 for evaluation and wondering about the vingnette control. It doesn't seem to do very much at all. I can slide the control bar to the extremes and the effect is ever so slight and in some instances barely perceivable. Am I missing something?

Bill

Hi Bill,
Firstly, I believe the image needs to be a RAW file.

Then, it is usually the wider angle lenses that suffer a bit of vignetting at certain apertures. It is possible that your image has no vignetting and thus you will see no change...

Hmmm...I thought it worked like other image software. For example, Lightroom's vignette control allows adding dark or light to the image periphery with control of intensity, etc. irrespective of what lens was used.

The control, I believe, is designed to just remove vignetting, not add it. So unless your image has some, genera;;y from a wide angle lens, it won't have much effect.

This control mimics the same control on the camera and just removes vignetting if it exists. If you want to create Vignettes like in Photoshop, you just put a negative control point where you want to center the light part and then adjust the brightness.

In Capture NX2 Help, search for "radial gradient".
