Used it for less than an hour today and it's crashed about 20 times on my windows PC.

Will give it a go on my Mac tonight and hopefully, it will work a lot better as I like the new look and it seems considerably faster so far.

Thanks D,

Been using it a while (PC) and so far all's well. I am happy that cropping and straightening is now included... Often that was all I went into CNX2 for. I think my workflow will be faster now with only occasional use of CNX2 where selection editing and other more specific tools are needed.

Thank you to Nikon for a great free tool!!

Yes. A good indication that CNX3 is in the pipeline. Increased functionality in VNX2 may indicate an major evolutionary step for CNX.

VNX2 works fine on Win XP Pro and Mac OS X (64bit). Looks very good and am keen to explore the new features more fully. The only thing I dislike is the pale mess of a programme icon!

Thanks for the notice Don.

The download includes Nikon Transfer 2 also and its upload speed seems slightly improved. Both Transfer 2 and View NX 2 appear to utilize color management better with images now looking more like the image produced in Capture NX2. I like the new interface and, as Peter said, don't like the icons. It's a bit of a relief to finally see these upgrades; they provide some hope for NX3.

Guys,

The D3100 is due to be announced this week and, unless NX2 is either upgraded or replaced by NX3, the D3100 buyers are not going to have a real RAW converter so the next week or two should be crucial!

No-one else having problems with the full size image screen going blank after viewing several images within a folder? It happens most often when zooming to 100% and back again. Only cure seems to be to relaunch.

PC is a fresh install of XP Pro and this happens every single time without fail for me.

Viewed 6 images on an iMac, zooming each to various zoom levels multiple times with no problems. All seems very quick.

Did you un-install previous versions of Transfer and View before installing? If not, you might try to un-install everything you can find for Transfer and View, then get the download from the Nikon global site referenced above, and re-install.

I downloaded ViewNX 2 to my Vista-PC and tested it and the iMac version by reviewing a recent shoot, 190 NEF images at a ballgame. Tried to use all the usual viewing features but didn't do any editing. I raced through the full set of full size images on both machines and zoomed in/out, rated photos, selectively deleted some, and was pleased to not see the problems you are having. I think you may have a flukey installation. Not to be negative WRT your situation, but I hope that's the case, and that you get it quickly resolved, and that you are not seeing a problem that's going to hit us all.

I also had problems with viewing full size images. After viewing several images, the images would no longer display. I didn't even try any zooming. I had to exit and restart View NX2 to get the images to display. This has occurred several times during a image grading session this afternoon

I'm running Windows XP Pro 32 bit. I installed it in Jan. 2009 and have applied every MS upgrade and patch as soon as they were available.

I've reinstalled this morning with the same result. Shame, as it works much much faster than the old version.

Worked flawlessly with my Macs at home and even played quite nicely with my server which the old version hates.

I just checked several hundred images, full screen, different zooms. No problems on my WinXP pro. I did notice on a few images the screen went gray before displaying the image. Maybe its a cache problem? I set mine to a different drive.

BTW, I like the left click to zoom. Was this on previous versions?

Hi Gary,

I also have XP Pro 32 bit with all MS upgrades and I am having no problems... BTW I still have the previous version of VNX installed.

After the download and at the end of installaton I did notice that a couple of times I thought it was "finished" only to see more activity - fortunately I was busy with something else so I let it finish properly.

I am on XP Home with ample hardware, and I am having this problem with high frequency, except in my case I also have examples of only sections of the image being blanked out as well.

Anyone know off by heart a location for the old version, which was operating pretty well for me?

I can't believe they eliminated the built-in email function from the previous version. I presume this was done to encourage the use of "My Picturetown". What a joke. The previous version provided a quick, down & dirty way to select photos from a grid of thumbnails, resize them appropriately for email attachments, and send them to your installed email application as attachments. I used it all the time. It couldn't have been more simple and direct. I guess I'll have to keep the previous version installed along with the new version just for the email function.

In response to Reply # 0

I have just downloaded and used the new version briefly, and it seemed fine. One problem . . . the slide show transitions do not work. That was the one nice thing in the old version - the varied transitions.

The new version simply changes from one picture to the next by blacking out -- no transitions.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks,

Ernie

I had the same problem. There is an answer over on the Flicker NX forum. You have to change a setting in Quick Time and all the transitions will work. The post is the View NX2 post about 2/3 of the way down. He lays out all the steps you need to do. Worked great for me.

The reply in Flickr is the same as section 8 of the Readme as follows:

8. Slideshow
8.1 Playing Movies (Windows only)
If you have problem using the transition function of the ViewNX 2 slideshow or during movie playback, please try the following;
(i) Quit ViewNX 2.
(ii) Open the QuickTime preferences.
(iii) Select the "Advanced" tab.
(iv) Select "Safe mode (GDI only)".
(v) Close the QuickTime preferences and try ViewNX 2 again.

Note that the alternative setting is using DirectX.

I do not get transitions with either of the settings.

Downloaded and installed yesterday on the iMac, works just fine. .....so far.
It appears the windows folks are having a few glitches; I will probably just
keep the old version which is working properly on my windows boxes.

I loaded it yesterday on an Acer Netbook running XP Home Edition on a 1.6 Ghz Atom processor with 2gb of RAM and it works fine.
Viewed hundreds of images without a hitch. I'll try it this weekend on my heavy duty Dell desktop running XP. So far, it's faster then View NX, but it's missing two critical features, the email converter which I use all of the time to send quick snapshots to family, and the ability to show a single GPS tagged file on a map. The new GPS view takes forever if you select it with a file of a thousand tagged images and there doesn't seem to be a way to see the location of a single image. Looks like I'll keep them both loaded for a while, but I'm leaning toward keeping the older version.

bad news...it's still only a 32bit program - wonder what that says for nx3?

What NX3?

These clowns will likely let it continue a slow death and burp up some glossed over 32 bit patch.

Cynical? You bet!

I have 64 bit OSs and the 32bit NX runs fine. While 64 bit would be "nice", I'm unsure of the significance of any advantages.

If I've got it correct:
NX 1 released July 2006
NX 2 released June 2008
- judging by thatI wouldn't say that any NX3 is particularly late.

Yes, labeling "32bit" is a good indication of something in the pipeline.

It is interesting that the download file is labeled as "32 bit" in the filename for the Windows version. Perhaps that implies that there will be a 64-bit version. (I think the latest CNX2 also had that at the end of the file name.)

Tks for the heads-up Don,
Much appreciated,

Unlike some, mine is working perfectly,
Even faster and better than the previous version,

I'm still using the old transfer though,
I am one of those "digitally and computer illiterate" guys,

Firstly, I have to make sure the new version is going to produce the right file numbers for me as I have now clocked past the number limit and are now D700_1001.NEF
Secondly, I have to work out how to get my computer to go to the new transfer when I put a card in the card reader

Can't wait till NX3 comes out though, bet it will not suit everyone but should be a better program, especially for guys like me who do not use another editing program

Regards,
Gary

I used to have a photographic memory but never got it developed

Gary,

If you change the suffix to 701 (in-camera) then the files will still be in the right order.

V2.2.5 will appear in a couple of weeks - give or take - when the D3100 hits the shops.

I am using it also on my PC win7 64bit without problems. I suppose there will be 64bit version of these applications because everything goes to 64bit architecture.
