"Help with Capture NX2 Settings"

Brisbane, AU

I appear to have reset some setting in NX2 resulting in any newly opened image being buried behind both the Browser and Folder tabs (which are now floating).

I am clueless as to what I altered, and have been all over my settings to try to locate what I changed.

Can anyone assist?

In addition, I have Jason Odell's Photographer's Guide to Capture NX2, but the version I have does not contain recommended sharpening settings for the D90. Has Jason since provided recommendations for teh D90, or can someone else (with experience) recommend settings?

Daryl

Daryl,
Don't think I can help you with the floating panels question. But I think you could use Jason's D300 capture sharpening settings (50/5/4) for your D90. The D90 has a similar, but not identical, sensor to the D300. In any case the capture sharpening settings between cameras are so minor its hard to tell the difference.

I found the sharpening settings after logging into the authorized area of Jason's website.

You were pretty close: 40/4/4. Thanks from one AU to another!

And I did eventually find where to rectify my problem with a congested workspace. It was in the Workspace settings (duh), which I had obviously fiddled with at some point.

IAEFRTFM (closer)!

Hi,
Are the nominal sharpening settings for RAW images that have received no in camera sharpening?
Mine are in the 20/5/4 area for D300 with some in camera sharpening.
Interesting,

Try this: hold down the option key (Alt on Windows) and hit 1,2,3,4.
This will cycle through pre-defined work spaces. When you see a workspace
you like, re-arrange things if necessary, and go to Preferences/Workspaces
and you can save _your_ settings as a new workspace. If you lose track again,
just hit the Option/Alt-key of your choice and you'll be back to what you want.

For his take on sharpening, drop him a note; he's a vary approachable "guru"

Online Help, chapter 5: Preferences/Workspace. I don't see anything that particularly
addresses this issue -- on the Mac here, whichever workspace I select, either with the
Option Key-1,2,3,4etc. combo or Window/Workspace or Window/Workspace/Reset
Workspace holds that setting through close and re-opening the application. If
you're on a Mac, you might drag the ~/Library/Preferences/com.nikon.CaptureNX 2.plist
preference file to the trash and then restart NX2. Don't know the windows equivalent.

2 vertical rows of what? Thumbnails? I'm not sure this is the right
answer, but if you're talking about thumbnails in the browser window, in the
upper right hand corner of the browser window, select thumbnail grid
instead of thumbnail list.
