"View NX Slideshow Problem"

Vienna, AT

When using Slideshow in View NX (version 1.5.2), the whole program often closes itself down ("crashes").

This occurs about half way through showing NEF folders containing around 100 or more images.

Any insights concerning the source of this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried clearing the cache? That seems to help cure several ills.

The problem continues even with a cleared cache.

Any other suggestions would still be welcome.

Thanks

I just tried a directory with 115 NEFs and it terminated in the 70s with a run-time error. What size are your NEFs? I shoot a D300 and they average about 11-13 mb per shot. Maybe a memory/buffer limit? Worth an email to Nikon software support I think.

I don't use View NX so maybe I'm not qualified to give an opinion

BUT

...why not try doing a bulk conversion to JPEG (at something near your monitor's native resolution) in a separate folder and run the slide show on the JPEGs?

You will be using far less in terms of computer resources.

Allen,

Further investigation showed that I was on version 1.4.0 of ViewNX. I updated to 1.5.2 and the slideshow runs through and even repeats. There is some variability in the duration of each slide, but generally OK.

If you're on the latest version of ViewNX, check your QuickTime settings - the slideshow (and movies) use QuickTime for display. There had been an issue with transitions working that is resolved by setting an advanced setting to GDI only.

Good luck.

I am using version 1.5.2.

The NEFs are from my D3 and are between 15 and 17 mb per image.
Consequently, it is quite possible that some memory limitation is the source of the problem.

Before contacting Nikon, I will try the same slideshow with a set of jpgs as has been suggested by Wes. This will certainly demand less memory.

Changing the QuickTime settings is also worth trying.

Thanks for the comments.
