"Capture NX2 won't oipen NEF files"

I usually use CS4 for post processing. I'm a newbie here. Just learned how to use Photoshop in the last year.

I decided to install the Caputer NX2 and View NX software that came with my Nikon D5000 today just to see how it works in relation to CS4. After installing the software it automatically searched the internet for the newest version of NEF codec. I rebooted after it installed. I go into ViewNX and can view all the NEF files on my camera card. But when I go into Capture NX it will not open the NEF files. It opens the JPG files just fine.

What did I do wrong?

Perhaps the filter at the top of the Browser is set to JPG. If you click the drop down tick, it will give you options to view file types. Select NEF or NEF-JPG to see the files.

I see the file in the browser. It is when I double click the NEF file that I get the error "Cannot load file XXX\XXX\XXX.nef".

I'm going to try loading Capture NX2 on my laptop and see if I get the same problem.

Are you using version 2.4.4 of NX2? if not look for the update on the Nikon site. older versions may not support the D5000.
