Thanks for that. You have bought the camera for all the reasons I have considered it. I have the D700 and D7000 and although the D700 is perfect for wildlife, accepting the reach issue, the D7000 is not so versatile noise wise. If the D800 ends up as a DX contender, then I shall consider it seriously and trade in the D700. If not I'll await the D300s replacement and trade the D7000.

It's just a waiting game until satisfactory IQ bird shots appear.
