I gather you are in AF-F mode since it's video right? It's either AF-S or AF-F I think, AF-C being for still images....anyway, this is how the manual describes AF-F:

Full time-servo AF: For moving subjects. Camera
focuses continuously until shutter-release button
is pressed. Focus locks when shutter-release
button is pressed halfway.

Isn't what you describe just what should be happening? ...i.e. the camera is focusing and refocusing until the shutter is pressed 1/2 way to lock it.

You don't mention pressing the shutter half way or at all so I gather you are not right?
