One way to learn, is to use the Auto or Scenes, and then look at what the camera decided for taking the shot (Shutter Speed, Aperture, ISO, etc) and just start getting used to it!
Another good resource I like is Scott Kelby's Digital Photography series (4 Volumes right now).
If you like taking one kind of shots (i.e. Portraits, Landscapes, etc), you could look for books on that kind of shot. I have found that bookstores rarely have the books in stock, but can order them in.
