I'm with Stan - AE/AF to AF-ON, DOF to My Menu.

A friend clued me into AF-ON during a Nikonians workshop two years ago, and I never looked back. It makes focus+reframe SO much easier. I general keep the focus area on a single spot rather than letting the camera guess what I care most about.
