I had purchased a J2 for a light travel camera in 2012. Most of my overseas travel involve some sports activity. Bike trekking, Snow skiing, Fishing etc. So i thought the J2 was a good alternative to my D800 which is for work or when i'm traveling heavy. So when i got an email from my wife...ruined the J2 with a leaking camelback...please buy new camera! I was already on my way and could not bring the D800. So what to buy? After playing with a few options i went with the D5200, nice and light, 24MP, good control...but also plenty of fast pre-set options for snaps. It was coupled with the DX 18-55mm kit lens....not bad and very flexible. I also grabbed the Sigma DC 30mm 1.4, for a fast lens (not so happy with this though). After carrying the D5200 around on a bike through France, i can say its a GREAT light weight camera....VERY happy with the choice! The J2 was not super small and harder to use manual....really not small enough to have an advantage over the 5200. If it can't fit into your jeans pocket.....may as well have a DSLR!
