"Nikon 5100 JPG compression"

CA

I've been doing some reading online and the opinions seem a bit varied about whether JPG FINE, JPG NORMAL, and JPG BASIC has any difference in actual quality of the image when viewed on a computer.

I mainly use my 5100 as a walk-around camera and photograph stuff I would otherwise take with my smartphone. This includes scenery, skyline, nice cars, etc. I don't plan to ever print my photos.

I just wanted to get some opinions on whether there is any appreciable difference in quality between the different levels of JPG compression?
