I find the chief cause for me is not enough Light.

I have the same Camera Purchased Jan and have D3000 that is about 3 years old (unlucky me If I had waited exactly 2 days I could have gotten a 3100. But that's the story of my Life).

I did not have these issues so much with the 3000 because it has a sensor almost half the size. So apparently it could get a long with less light. 14.4 as opposed to 24.2

I wish the Nikon Cameras had the split focus circle like in my old Chinnon 35 MM whether auto focus it would show an inner circle that was split into a Top and bottom portion a split screen as it became more in focus the top part got lighter and it would be one smooth line (the image would not be split)
