"Strange issue with D3000 and 18-55mm VR lens"

US

Just bought a D3000 kit with an 18-55mm VR lens. The pictures came out all dark, even under bright sunlight; the objects seen thru the view finder are also very dark. I posted the pictures here:

http://s787.photobucket.com/albums/yy159/petrusky70/_Mua/0712/D3000/

the camera setting shows extreme underexposure (pic 19) and reports "Subject is too dark" (Pic 20) although the environment is bright with sunlight.

I tried using another lens of mine (a 18-55mm non VR) and the pictures are fine, please compare pix 11-14 (VR lens) with pix 15-18 (non VR lens) of same objects, same light condition, same camera settings.

Then I used the "bad" lens with my D40 and it's also fine.

Results: The D3000 and the VR lens are OK by themselves if used with other lens or other camera but not if used together.

Any idea why? Thanks!
