Greg -- I am not so sure about your assessment of the D700 as a "semi-pro" camera. A lot of people who make pretty decent livings in photography, including myself, use the D700. It i an awesome camera that occupies a pretty sweet spot cost wise and performance wise. Balanced against the D3, it provided equal image quality with a few sacrifices in other areas. In the end, that's what I use as my most critical measurement: image quality. You'll love your D700.
