I don't know what you mean by "...the D700 is 5000 as compared to the D300...", but in case it helps to answer the original question let's get our figures straight... The D700 sensor has an area just under 2.31 times the area of a D300 sensor. To have the same pixel density, the D700 would need to be a 28.38 MP camera.
