Nikon warranties are country specific. Archaic policy designed to protect their in-country retailers and in smaller markets (like Canada) keeps price competition down .

In N.A. Nikon Canada will not service - warranty or otherwise any camera not bought in-country. Must be real PITA for immigrants with gear. This used to apply for warranty work only, they now have a zero-tolerance policy. Canon by contrast has a NA-wide warranty and service policy.
