I could be wrong in dates/eras, but the trational thought that they've had a 7 DSLR line up could be wrong.
How long have they had a 7 body line up?
I've had my D70 since 2004/2005. That's only 7 years ago. Not really that long when you think that at that time I think they only had a D1, D1h, D100, and D70. The D200 was introduced mid to late 2005 I think.
Over time they have increased their line up choices but why do they have to justify having 7 all the time. It could be more, it could be less.
I agree with another post here that if they have too many models with a somewhat skewed model nomenclature it could cause more confusion in their line up and hurt their sales. It's already getting a little muddied with the 4 digit model names.
