I may just have to download a few 36mp images and try Aperture and Silver Efex 2. I think my iMac with 12gb will cope fine, but $3000 is scary for a body, but then inside every D800 is a D400 DX, if you attach a DX lens, albeit with a rather slow frame speed. It is becoming my dream..
Re the storage - we almost all keep too many photographs - so just throw more away.
Enjoy your Leica products, the $50,000 Hermes one looks especially nice and you do get a free bag and lenses. But I was thinking only the other day that it was only a matter of time before LVMH buys Leica, and Leica traditionalists must shudder at the prospect.
X2 looks good if you like that sort of thing, though it is very expensive and I suspect the Fuji X200 will out-perform it.
I am far from sure about the Leica BW sensor - bang goes the best thing (IMHO) about digital B&W, which is the ability to use colour filters in PP.. Moreover if you want a tool designed the recapture the beauty of black & white film a Leica M6 and a roll of Tri-X can be had for a grand and the results look stunning.
But Leica is happy catering to tiny markets, and at those prices may be able to do so profitably.
