The problem is that the mirror on a full-frame Canon may hit the back of an EF-S lens at some zoom settings. People have actually shaved off part of the mirror to allow them to mount and use these lenses, although I can't imagine why anyone would do that to your full-frame body. There are how-to's on the internet!
It makes me glad I shoot Nikon, who has relatively few compatibility issues over many decades of F-mount design!
