I am not using the small IR SU-4 device.
I am placing the remote SB800 units in the SU-4 mode, which is one of several modes in which they can be configured. There is a difference.
With the remote SB800s in the SU-4 mode, the Pocket Wizards are then used to trigger them as described earlier.
Sorry for the confusion. It is easy to forget that there is an IR SU-4 device which attaches to an SB800, and an SU-4 mode built into the SB800. In either case, the behavior of the SB800 is essentially the same, except the Pocket Wizard configuration does not require line of sight alignment, and provides much greater range.
