All caps text has been regarded as shouting since the earliest days of networked text communication - on Usenet, GEnie, Compuserve and so on dating back to the early '80s.
A billion books printed in lower case can't be all wrong. Readability is a combination of many things - text/background contrast, color, font choice, letter and word kerning, line spacing, line length, standard grammatical case and so on. The rules for readable writing, printing and online typing with respect to grammar and formatting represent the current culmination of literally centuries of practice, experimentation and refinement.
