I managed to recover some files after a couple of formats on one of the cards!!!

rescue pro is really good, you just have to let it do its job (without disturbing the software) I even left the machine alone until it had finished the job, and after several crashes, the software managed to salvage some files that I was looking for!!!

guess I got lucky!!!
