I use the first place that Marty mentioned as my primary repair option. They are much easier to deal with - and historically anyway, they are a lot quicker than Nikon. (I've dealt with Melville plenty also. I don't send anything to Nikon except warranty work.) APS is very reliable and they do top quality work, as good as Nikon's.
The last one I had was a pretty complex lens (the 135/f2 AF DC) that had been dropped by a previous owner. They got it on Friday morning and I got it back on Monday afternoon. That never has happened with Melville, even for a simpler repair.
