This small size is poor for judging sharpness, but it does not look that bad, just needs a little USM. ("save for web" stripped out all the EXIF data.)
Animals that are shades of the same color tend to present poor focus targets due to the lack of contrast. The bright antlers in the darker tree might work; maybe the eye of the elk on the right. However, if you were using the very center point, which might be the black area where their heads meet, there might be better spots.
f/7.1, I can only think you were looking for a wide depth of field. I would have probably gone with f/4 to f/5.6 just to help with the focus point problems.
