I just bought an ExpoDisc and have only played briefly with it around the house. From what I understand, it turns the camera into an incident light meter rather than a reflectance meter. You are supposed to point it from the location of the subject towards the planned shooting position. If using a grey card, one puts the card in the area of the subject and takes a picture from the shooting position.
