I upgraded from a D70S and found that my pictures taken on the default settings were not quite sharp enough and others have felt that their WB were not quite right, etc. There are ways to increase saturation, decrease contrast, etc. in camera so that you do not have to always do that while postprocessing. I know that changing the settings in camera has really reduced my postshooting processing time. However, this is only true if you are shooting in JPG. If you shoot in raw and then open in Adobe, it ignores these settings/defaults (per my husband who knows more on this subject than I do. When they first came out with the D90, its raw files were not supported everywhere, so I was shooting JPG. So I did learn to tweak the default settings.
