"NX2 PM CPU usage"

Qawra St Pauls Bay, MT

Can anyone give me an explanation in simple terms please?
I am getting "high CPU usage" messages from Windows particularly from Photo Mechanic compared to Capture NX2 with the same folder open in either program at a time.

With only the desktop open Task Manager Performance Monitor shows-
45% CPU and 2.7GB Physical memory.

Opening NX2 - 50% & rises initially to nearly 100% then drops back to 50% with a folder of NEF thumbnails open.
No change in Memory.

Opening PM - 32% rising to 100% CPU and stays at that level with the same NEF folder open.
No real change in memory useage.

Are these figures reasonable?

Win 7 64 bit, 8GB RAM 2.1GHz twin core pentium laptop.

Thanks
