well we have B:102 on camera already so only A:103 is downloaded and installed. Never had the underexposure issue yet always like new firmware.

No difference here after the update.

I down loaded and unzipped the file from Nikon USA on 5/23, the actual file name of the update is correct D700_0103.bin.

Looking at the Nikon site, I was concerned that they mention "D7000_103.bin file". I presume this is a typo meant to be D700 (not D7000), but I won't upgrade until they fix it. Just being cautious.

I did the download and updated the firmware in 2 bodies today. All went well. I looked when I went to the Nikon USA firmware page, and as best I remember, it says D700. The D7000 mistake must have already been corrected.

I haven't tried to see if there are any obvious diffences with the new firmware. I just checked both bodies to ensure that they would still shoot and show a picture in the LCD. Both did. Life is good.

The download page with instructions still shows the D7000 typo; the download has a folder "D700 Update" that has a file "D700_0103.bin" - I had no problems with the update when first announced.

Hi Steve - First let me thank you for this post with its reminder to save your D700 settings to another CF card. I am new to the D700 and have never done a firmware update before so that I would never have thought to do that. Hence it would have been a great of work to set everything up again.

I have a few questions regarding your post.

1. If I do NOT save my D700 settings to another CF card, then is my understanding correct that if I then go ahead and do the firmware update, all of my values in my Shooting banks and the Custom Setting banks plus the values for the 4 Playback options listed in the Save/Load section of the D700 manual would all be wiped out? Is that understanding correct?

2. From the Setup -> Save/load settings menu, I pressed OK, selected Save settings and pressed OK and the camera created a file called "NCSETUP4.BIN". So, after the firmware update has been completed, presumably I just load the CF card containing the backup settings into the camera, navigate to Setup > Save/load settings menu, press OK, select Load settings, press OK again and my settings are restored. Is that correct?

Thanks

Robert

I downloaded and installed the firmware update and it installed without any problems, I then varified the update in the camera menu and was pleased to see that non of my setting defaulted to factory as I did not save my setting to a CF card.

The camera is working as it should, so I have not seen any issues created by the update.

Hi - Interesting and good to know. The only thing to add is that it certainly does not hurt to back up those settings - just about 5 - 10 minutes time or so. As a side benefit to those such as I, I actually learned something about my D700 in creating a backup.

Thanks for your post.

got it figured out, but had trouble updating a 2nd D700 with firmware A1.02/B1.02. Went through all the steps to update it (I already did it on my first D700 with no issues), put the CF card with the bin file in the new body, went to Firmware Version menu, and the "Update" menu item was not even there. Either the file or the card was corrupted. I changed cards, reformatted it, and re-downloaded the firmware - it finally worked. Just an FYI.

Yes Anthony, I stand corrected! I looked again and saw two places down in the copy (one following just after "D700" had been typed previously) that had "D7000". It looks like Nikon's computer can't spell any better than mine can!

Now that the new firmware upgrade has been out for a while, does anyone know of any adverse effects that it's had on your D700?

I have resisted upgrading, as my D700 has, for all practical purposes, worked flawlessly.

Just wondering.

Hi Rich,

It is easy, you have a D7000 and not a D700

But check out this site for the new L-Firmware-Update for your camera:

I'm currently having problems with one of my D700's, when using the Manual program, when the picture is taken the exposure is way off and I see it's selecting it's own shutter speed?

The shutter speed varies on each picture, almost as if it is metering! I admit I haven't done the firmware upgrade and am hoping maybe it will fix it? If not, then it'll have to go off for repair

I thought for awhile that my D700 was trying to meter in "M" mode and got the severely underexposed shots. I think my problem was just that I was downloading RAW files into my Apple Aperture program, and that's how they came out. I was able to fix some of it by adjusting Aperture, but I think it is just the RAW download process. Have to do a batch change on the exposure on all the images, usually. Also, remember that your meter is working, even in M mode. But the camera is supposed to override and take the exposure as you selected you other exposure parameters.

Just upgraded my D700 firmware successfully. Many thanks for posters on this board. I was not even aware a new version was available.

I went to that link to Nikon and saw that this upgrade corrects a rare problem regarding extreme underexposure. I do not have this problem. Should I still do the firmware upgrade? Thanks.

I would. There could be other issues we're not even aware of that are corrected here. I like to keep all my equipment up to date as far as firmware, software, etc. Cameras, computers, everything.

Thanks for the information. I have not up dated the firmware on my D700, ever, I purchased the camera new almost 4 years ago. Do I need to install the previous firmware first before I install the latest upgrade?

Thanks

No, I don't thing so.
my D700 is about the same vintage and it didn't have any of fireware updates until I updated it earlier this year.

Nearly a year after the release, I have finally updated my firmware with no issues. Thanks for the thread and link to follow the procedure with no issues.
