Actually, the V1 (or maybe the V2) is becoming more and more attractive to me. Length is one big plus — on my 200-400 I get to 1080 before adding a TC — and the size and overall quality are impressive. I just wish it would shoot brackets.

I know what you mean. When I first saw that a couple weeks ago I really thought about getting a V1 and the adapter. I had a preorder for a D4 which I am canceling. Maybe I'll get a V1. But I may wait and see when Nikon iterates the V1 to a V2. I'm really curious about if they'll iterate like the coolpix line or more like dslr.

Oh, and I'm thinking with my 200-400, too!

Someone in the Nikon 1 forum has posted shots with the Sigma 300-800.

“Actually, the V1 (or maybe the V2) is becoming more and more attractive to me. Length is one big plus — on my 200-400 I get to 1080 before adding a TC — and the size and overall quality are impressive. I just wish it would shoot brackets.”

Just remember the limitations. It will not track focus with an AFS lens and even with CX lenses this post suggests that the electronic viewfinder may not refresh fast enough for fast action.

There are situations where I would love to have that long effective focal length for perched hawks and such.

The lack of focus track, the use of only the center AF sensor, and the lack of bracketing are the limitations that have me waiting for the V2.

And we are dreaming a bit. Effective focal lengths in the 1000-3000mm range will require extreme and diligent tripod technique. The rate of capturing truly sharp images my actually be quite low.

But it would be so-o-o much fun to try!
