"Astrophotography Forum dedication"
Mon 09-Jun-14 06:28 AM by jrp

San Pedro Garza García, MX

This forum is dedicated to the memory of Captain Alan G. Poindexter.

A Naval flyer, astronaut and passionate photographer, he was a Nikonian (Dex) who joined us since 2006, shared with the community his personal images and impressions of space travel.

The Nikonian eZine #45 featured him as commander of the STS-131 space mission.

On behalf of Nikonians, we sent him the following message on that occasion:

Thank you for your service to your country as a Naval officer and to the space exploration efforts of NASA. We are privileged to have you as a member of our Nikonians community and wish you and your crew ‘fair winds and following seas’ on the upcoming STS-131 mission.

A true hero, he received two Legion of Merit awards, Distinguished Flying Cross, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, NASA Aviation Safety Award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat V, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various other service awards.

He died in a terrible watercraft accident in July 1, 2012.

Dex, fair winds and following seas. Godspeed.

'When a great man dies, for years the light he leaves behind him, lies on the paths of men.'
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882) U.S. poet.

Have a great time
