"Using custom WB"

My D 800 custom WB function seems to be inoperative. When I dial in pre, then press the WB button, I cannot get the Pre icon in the control panel. Therefore I cannot proceed. Any ideas before I call Nikon or send it in?

Just so I'm clear..

Are you holding the WB button in and rotating the dial until you get to PRE?

Then releasing the WB button?

Then holding the WB down until PRE flashes?

That's what I am doing, but I never get the flashing Pre.
