My Adobe Elements doesn’t support D800 RAW files so I installed the software that came with the camera (ViewNX2). The problem I have is that when I open a NEF file in viewnx2 and click on the EDIT icon, nothing happens……..I don’t get any editing options. Any idea what I’m doing wrong?

Thanks for the link Jim. I've downloaded and tried it out and it does work. I converted tghe files and Elements will accept the DNG files.
I've not looked at the converter closely but when I used it it looked like you had to convert all NEF files in a folder rather than being able to select individual files.

PS Still can't work out why ViewNX2 won't bring up editing options when selecting the EDIT icon. i've asked Nikon but it's probably me just being thick!
Footnote && - These cameras are supported in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.0, but not in Camera Raw 7.0. These cameras will be supported in the next dot release of Camera Raw 7.
Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications shows the last ACR plug-in version for PS Elements 10 is 6.6 but the last ACR version listed is 6.7, so PS Elements 10 can not be updated further.

Hi, yes, nikon sent me latest version. I open a RAW file and select the EDIT icon which highlights and a panel opens up on the right hand side which gives details of the image but no panel of edit options. Do I need to select another option or icon?

Dave,
Go to the home page and in the upper left is a edit button...click on it. Then when the pic opens on the upper right is a small bar that says 'adjustments'. Click on that. The editing tools are in there when it drops down.

Now that have a tool to open and edit RAW files I've had a little play. Think if I continue to shhot RAW I'm going to have to upgrade my PC as the files are so large that it takes an age to edit and, to be honest, I don't really see much, if any, improvement on IQ between RAW and JPEG (perhaps I would if I printed at A3 but on the screen I don't see it.
Anyone else got any views on pros/ cons of these EAW files?

Raw files give you significantly more options in how you can edit your files, including white balance, sharpening, contrast, color profiles, highlight and shadow recovery, etc. Many of those will translate into an improved image. A side benefit is that you'll spend less time while shooting having to think about what's the best color profile or contrast setting to use for a given image (along with all the dial twiddling).

Hi Dave,
I finally did a 'RAW' pic to see if I had similar problems. I loaded ViewNX2..version 2.3.0. I dragged a raw image onto my desktop and lcicked to open it. The applications were listed and ViewNX2 was not one of them. So I added ViewNX2 to my list of available apps and when back to my desktop. I clicked on the RAW image file and it opened just fine.
