My cameras LCD failed completely, ha been sort of flaky since new. Camera sent to El Segundo over 3 weeks ago. They show PARTS HOLD. Do you there is a replacement part for the entire back, I noted it was some sort of plastic while forward part metal. Maybe they never planned on repairs.

Parts Hold usually means they don't have the item needed to replace and are awaiting stock. Modern appliances are so modular that part replacement rather than piece-repair are the norm. This is certainly true with the Nikon 1 series - the base camera itself is comprised of less than 200 parts all told.

Thanks Maybe they changed the rear portion and moved the control from off the body inward. I like the fact I can download the 1 nefs along with the D300, sort by time shot and in many cases when not printing, csn not tell th difference. There ar times when a big camera is intimidating.

Good luck with your repair. I had a problem with a lens for my V1 and the Nikon Authorized location ended up sending it to Nikon Melville for repair at the request of the manufacturer. The good news is Nikon is paying close attention to any repairs on the V1 and will give it some extra attention. Hope it does not take too long.

Wow, that's a long wait. Is it for the J1 or V1? With the release of the J2 parts may be available or the high res screen soon. Hope you get it back soon.

That is a long time indeed. Crazy! Have you had a chance to call and perhaps ask a supervisor to give you a more detailed update? I hope you get it back soon!

It was the V1, you would think in six weeks they could receive parts, unless they never made parts only sufficient for manufacture. Sometimes I havee to wonder who is running Nikon!

Or they should just send you a new one and be done with it.
My V1 is going to the shop shortly. Hopefully it doesn't take forever to get it back. The problem really appears to be the 10-30mm lens. So hopefully they can either fix it quick or just give me a replacement.

The LCD on my V1 won't turn back on once the EVF has come on for the first time after a power on. So it's mostly off. Not a disaster, as i can do everythung via the EVF - just no Live View. Anyone else having this problem?

That is how mine started, then finally out completely. They replaced the entire back of the camera including the ETF, now works better than it ever did.

Sent mine to NY. Took about 2 weeks to get it back. The camera kept turning itself on at any slight movement. I thought the problem was the 10-30 lens since it didn't seem to happen with the other lenses. Sent the V1 and lens in. According to the paperwork they just cleaned the lens and updated the firmware (even though I had recently done that) and replaced some circuit board in the camera, adjusted the focus and updated the firmware. Seems to be OK now. Hopefully it stays that way.

I was pleased with the resulting repairs and talked my son into buying one when the prices dropped. He wanted to take it on a trip to Morocco rather than lug a D300. He just emailed me the view finder failed, odd two persons different cameras same problem
