Will the new D7000 drive autofocus on lenses that don't have AF-S? I'm particularly interested in the 80-400mm lens.

Absolutely, it supports lenses with a 'screw drive' AF and it even has an AI index tab to allow you to use AI spec. lenses (well up to 9 of them anyway).

Great! So why would anyone wait to pre-order the D7000? In fact, it's also terrific for another reason.

In contemplation of a trip to Antarctica, I got a small digital camera to photograph the antics of penguins. But the D7000 video will blow away my little camera.

Lack of money?

Waiting to see some real life reports of the sensor/camera?

Letting Nikon ironing v1.00 kinks out?

Having said that, the specs look very promising.
