Hello Everyone,

As I said earlier I have recently purchased my first DSLR i.e. Nikon D3100 and now I am looking for some basic tips to use it and get better results.

I am reading this forums and learning many stuff but still looking for some expert tips to use the camera.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
MilindMk

Hi Milind,

Again, Welcome to Nikonians!
Click on the Resources button at the top of the page.
Then click on Guides, How To, Tips and Tricks.
Then read all of the articles in: Camera Basics, and Lens Basics.
That should help you get started on the right foot.
If you have any specific questions on any subject in the articles, post it in the appropriate forum and someone will Answer it and or explain it it more detail.

I would also recommend reading Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. It will help get you up and running in Manual Exposure mode.

Read through the camera Manual and set it up. If you have a specific question post it here. Then go out and shoot. The instant feedback Digital provides is an excellent learning tool. There is no substitute for practice.
Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!

Best Regards,
Marty

I really benefited from the "Dummies" series book for the D3100. Technically accurate, very thorough, and extremely helpful. It's $19.59 on Amazon.

And do your reading on here, there is LOTS of wonderful advice.

Greetings Milind,

And welcome to Nikonians!

I hope not to sound pedantic, but have you looked at Nikon's 'Digitutor"?
http://www.nikonusa.com/en_US/IMG/Assets/Digital-SLR/2010/25472-Nikon-D3100/Video/digitutor/index.html

This will give you a complete walk through of the D3100. After which I think searching the manual will make more sense. The resources given to you by Marty are great. However, digesting all that information would be like sitting down to a feast and trying to gobble as much as you could in at one time. Look at the bits that are important to you first. That is how to read a camera manual - not like a novel - there is no plot - just information.

Your lotus flower is beautiful. Thank you for posting it here. The 'Digitutor' will give you much information for the camera. Then you can look up the precise information you want in the manual - which is in PDF on your CD - if your info from Nikon is the same as in the U.S.

Grace and Peace,
Enjoy your Nikon and your photography.

Ken
