"Confused: D5000 + 35mm 1,8 "

Hi everyone,

This is just a quick question to one of you masters lurking about on the forums..

I have a D5000 and the 35mm 1.8 lens.
From my understanding this is a DX lens designed specifically for the DX range of Nikon DSLRs?
Ok so here's my actual question
When I download the photos to my PC and look at the properties tab of a photo (right-click on photo, choose 'properties' and then select 'details' tab) it shows focal length of '35mm' but then further down the list is says '35mm focal length: 52mm'.

Can someone please just help me out with this?
Am I shooting at 52mm or 35mm?

You are shooting with a 35mm lens. But do to the smaller size of the sensor, using that 35mm lens gives you the field of view that a 52mm lens would on a 35mm film or full frame sensor camera at a given subject to camera distance.

That is what is meant by the term crop sensor camera and the 1.5 crop factor. The 35mm lens times the crop factor gives you the focal length need if you were to use a 35mm film camera (35x1.5=52.5).

Hope this helps.
