My D5000 will not turn on when i turn the switch to on. Batteries are good. Took it to the dealer and said the min. would be $75.00 to find the problem. He said he rarely sees them come back for less than $250.00. He said he could sell the up graded D5100 body only for $550.00. Do not know if he is just trying to sell me a knew camera. Any ideas what you would do? Ken

Hi Ken,
Welcome to Nikonians! Sorry to hear of your problem. Have you tried cleaning the electrical contacts on the battery and the contacts in the camera body? If you send the camera to Nikon Service or a Nikon Authorized Service Station, they will give you an estimate of the repair cost and won't proceed with the repair until you approve it. Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!

Some d5000 in certain serial nr span might need a replacement of a certain component. If your camera now has this issue the fix might be free of charge.

Hi: Just thought I would let everyone know that UPS just delivered my Nikon. I sent it in a couple of weeks ago after talking to Nikon on the phone to make sure the recall was still in effect. Only problem I had was trying to understand what the lady was saying. I don't think she was born in Texas. Anyway all in all I was pleased with the amount of time it took to correct the problem. The camera works fine. Thanks again to the Forum. Ken
