I have a D5000 and I'm a shaky photographer especially taking vertical shots. Would a grip help steady me? Any preferred brands?

Grips with the extra shutter button are great for this as they let you keep your elbows tucked in like they should be. The added weight will help steady the camera.

I am a big fan of the Nikon grips, but their availability for the lower-end camera can be lacking.

no problem with the third party grips at about $40 and the P7000 battery at $10...Shaky ..get a VR lens only ever had a blurrred pic when the subject moves at 1/15..lots of 200mm shots in low light from the back of churches....

I have a D5100 with the Mieke/Neewer grip. Works well, and is cheap. Definitely try it and see if it works for you.
