Long time lurker, first time poster.
I already have the D60, and think it is outstanding. I am looking at getting a D3000 for my girlfriend. I think that they are comparable and either one of us could grab either camera and take the same shots. I have a couple of extra accessories, lenses, filters, etc. that I know will fit both.
The one question I have is the battery. The one listed for the D60 is EN-EL9. The one listed for the D3000 is EN-EL9a. I would think they would fit eiterh camera, but does anyone know what the difference is? Capacity? Different materials? What?
Mod- if this is in the wrong forum feel free to move it, I thought this is the closest to what I needed.

The Nikon USA site is not clear. The batteries are not listed a interchangable but they use same the charger. The EN-EL9 and EN-EL9a are listed as a replacement part for the D5000.
You might want to ask Nikon USA tech support.
Once you register your camera with them, you will have access to the Nikon USA tech support site.

Welcome to Nikonians!
I can't say for sure one way or another as I can't find any information on either battery.
My best guess it they will be interchangable based on past expierience with the EN-EL3 line of batteries:
If they work the same way as the EN-EL3 and EN-EL3a they will be interchagable.
The EN-EL3e is backwards compatible for use in older bodies, however bodies that were designed to use the EN-EL3e will not work with an EN-EL3 or EN-EL3e. The EN-EL3/ EN-EL3a have two contacts, the EN-EL3e has three contact.
Good Luck and Enjoy your Nikons!

Thanks for the welcome.
I looked on the Nikon site and found the pages for each of the batteries. According to the pictures, the EN-EL9 is 7.4 volts 1000mAh and the EN-EL9a is 7.2 volts 1080mAh.
Whether that is enough to make a difference to the camera is the $64,000 question.
I have submitted the question to Nikon support. When I get an answer, I will post the reply.

I spoke with Nikon rep this morning, I needed a second battery for a D5000 and the dealer had only EN-EL9 in stock. The difference is as above, EN-EL9a 1080mAh or EN-EL9 1000mAh and therefore improved performance(more shots per charge) from the EN-EL9a. Either will work

I got a response from support that states the both batteries are interchangable.
Thanks for the responses.
